Miguel Torner de Semir Spanish, b. 1938

Born in 1938, Girona. Spain.  He studied at the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

 

Torner de Semir’s work bridges the gap between the old and the new, his influence from Gothic stained glass, depicted in the thick black outlines of figures juxtaposed with abstracted modernist elements sublimely creates paintings within paintings.

 

Influenced by his contemporary Picasso, his passion for the historical as well as the modern is ever present.  He strives to explore the abstract in the beauty he creates.

 

Internationally renowned he was honoured in 2003 and commissioned to design a postage stamp to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Spanish constitution.

 

His work is in numerous public collections in Spain including The Museum of the Royal Mint and is highly sought after by art collectors internationally.
